My Birthday Weekend!

Grow old along with me!  The best is yet to be!!  - Robert Browning

I spent the afternoon at a few lectures and then the night was on.  Beginning with Broad St Behind the Beat, a jazz performance organized and put on by Colgate students.

2/12/16 - I woke up to Astro 450something with a lecture about blackbody radiation

Next, to the Positive Sexuality Fair where I picked up fondue, flavored lube, valentines day cards with condoms in them and made some new friends!

...As usual, one thing led to another, and we ended up at Slices, the mediocre late-night pizza joint in Hamilton that EVERYONE goes to

And then the night began in earnest, starting with a Physics party at the Loj - a known Outdoor Education house.

Then, we wondered into the winters night...

The next day I woke up and went to a local farmers market with a few friends.  After that I attended a club basketball game as First Responder.  My job being to call the right people if someone gets injured...So naturally I just took pictures.
Next I headed to the track meet.  I love being at a small school because if you are carrying a camera you can go anywhere, no questions asked.

From there I headed to Vagina Monologues (http://www.eveensler.org/plays/the-vagina-monologues).  Colgate students told the stories of other women and the effect was powerful.  Themes included: gendered bias, women's sexual oppression, sexual assualt, body image, and general acknowledgment and comfortability with vaginas.

Next I headed to MidNight Philosophy, a Colgate group that meets Saturday 10pm-Sunday.  The topic for the night was love - fitting because when the clock struck 12am, it was Valentines day!!  So I ushered in my birthday thinking all about love: what it is, its different forms, why it waxes and wanes, constructs and labels like marriage and "dating".  Afterwards I decided that the best way to love myself was to get some sleep!

2/14/16 - My Birthday started with the sun.

The rest of the day consisted of writing and reflection interspersed with a few games of Volleyball.

A few of my social media posts:

The morning comes on my 22nd birthday!
It is well below zero in Hamilton, but the sun is shining!!

Now I sit here, working on an assignment about kinship...could be worse
shout out to the family that raised me and the other kin I have picked up since!

What's it like to have a birthday on Valentine's day?
...it is what you make it!

someone recently introduced me to the acronym SAD
Singles Appreciation Day

all of you make me feel so special!

unbelievable how many lives have touched mine, and how many people can flood back in on some random day of the year!!

Thank you to all people, past and present, reaching out to me and reminding me of all the lives I have touched and all the people that make up my life

technology is an amazing thing

-- I actually managed to respond (or atleast acknowledge) 150+ social media well-wishers, as well as a few in person ; )  Responding to those who took the time to reach out had been one of my goals for the day and I actually felt it was a great aid to my days reflection to consider each of the people and all the history and memories that came with.

The day ended fittingly, dinner with my closest friends from freshmen year.

Overall, the day was a balance of reflecting on the past, living in the moment, and dreaming of the future.
